Rosa Trujillo

Socorro, New Mexico

Rosa paints in oil and natural pigment, working close to the Tularosa Basin she grew up in. Her canvases braid together Southwestern desert imagery and her family's long, quiet history in the shadow of the Trinity Site — a place her grandmother rarely spoke of, and that Rosa now spends her career trying to put into color. Her work has been shown in small galleries across southern New Mexico and leans on land, memory, and inheritance more than any single tribal iconography, which she's careful never to claim as her own to depict.
